Elizabeth Castle + My Favorites
This large fortress was the spot for the defense of Jersey for over 300 years, from the times of the Elizabethans until the German occupation in World War II. Military exhibits, the home of the sixth century hermit St Helier and gorgeous views of the sea are just a few of the reasons to visit Elizabeth Castle. Listen for the noonday gun, which continues to be fired each day. Address: St Aubin's Bay, | St Helier,, Jersey, | JE2 3NF Tel: +44 (0) 15 3472 3971

+ My Favorites
Dating back to Norman times, the stately Samares Manor's grounds are home to an internationally renowned herb garden. The manor's courtyard contains a craft centre including a soap-making workshop, glass-sculpting, painting and woodturning. The manor gardens are tranquil, atmospheric and full of interest. Talks on the unusual plants and gardening occur each weekday. The manor offers guided tours of the home, children enjoy the Super Sleuth Nature Trail and the Jersey Rural Life and Carriage Museum, is now in its second successful year. Mont Orgueil Castle + My Favorites
Dating back to the 13th century, this castle has seen calm as well as storm. Both the Normans and the French recognized the value of occupying the Channel Islands, and used this area at separate times. The sea and cliffs provided protection on three sides of Mont Orgueil Castle, making it a very strategic military location. Today the castle is well maintained and offers an awe-inspiring photographic opportunity. Open all year (hours vary), also called Gorey Castle. Address: Gorey | St Martin, Jersey Tel: +44 (0) 15 3485 3292
